Trapped Animal + The Raincoats
The Slits are set to release ‘Trapped Animal’ on October 5th. Celebrating the 30th Anniversary Of The Slits Groundbreaking Debut Album ‘Cut’ . The band features original members Ari Up and Tessa Pollit. Cargo and Sweet Nothing are pleased to announce the full-length release from The Slits in over 25 years. 2009 also marks the 30th anniversary of The Slits debut album Cut, the historic album released on Island Records. The Slits became a part of the punk pantheon with songs that even today continue to be meditations on alienation and angst.
With Trapped Animal , The Slits remain the same genre bending band they were in their inception, still standing out from the rest of the pack. In the title track they examine how the conveniences that surround us in today’s modern world have also trapped us. Other tracks include “Pay Rent” which focuses on the everyday struggle artists face trying to pay the bills through their art along with the sexually charged “Lazy Slam”. “Ask Ma” will be out as a digital single in August and will be your first taste of Trapped Animal. The current lineup features original members Ari Up and Tessa Pollitt along with Hollie Cook (daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook), Anna Schulte and Adele Wilson. The Slits known for their infusion of punk and reggae sounds are one of the most significant female punk-rock bands in history. Both legendary and somewhat notorious there is a satiric, tongue-in-cheek quality to their songs instead of a strident peachines
We ThRee (The band’s own label) announce the reissue of the "The Raincoats" the legendary first album by The Raincoats originally released on Rough Trade Records in 1979.
Widely acclaimed as one of the musical highlights of the post punk period and a breakthrough moment for women in music, "The Raincoats" has been commercially unavailable for the past 10 years. The album was recorded in 1979 by Ana da Silva, Gina Birch, Palmolive and Vicky Aspinall and was produced by Geoff Travis and Mayo Thompson. We ThRee is The Raincoats' own label and we will release the vinyl LP on 19 October and a special edition enhanced CD on 9 November 2009.
The album has been re-mastered from original masters. The CD has an extra track from the band’s first single ‘Fairytale in the Supermarket’ and is enhanced with live film footage from 1977 and 1979 and the video for “Fairytale in the Supermarket’ directed by Gina Birch in 1995 and the liner notes were written by Kurt Cobain in 1993.
