Come Sing These Crippled Tunes

Discovered by acclaimed photographer Jason Reposar at the Zanzibar in Liverpool, The Cubical’s demo quickly found its way to friend Dave Sardy (infamous producer to the likes of Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones, Oasis & Primal Scream) and the rest has been akin to a fairytale... Sardy was immediately taken by the raw recordings, and upon discovery that this wasn’t a lost 60’s garage gem he promptly arranged to have the band flown out to LA to perform a showcase gig at the Echo on Sunset Boulevard.

40 sweat infused minutes later Record Collection offered them an album deal on which Sardy was to take production duties. Following in the well-trodden footsteps of heroes such as The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits they recorded the album at Sunset Sound Studios, Hollywood. The album was recorded in 4 “very intense, sweaty Californian days” capturing the wild live energy of the band. The album was recorded reel-to-reel using an old 60’s mixing desk, vintage guitars, amps and even a haggard old piano to recreate 1960’s studio conditions the way Sardy imagined when he heard them on stage.

Following a tour of Australia, successful performances at SXSW and a host of UK shows that included headlining Alan McGee’s Death Disco and a string of support slots with such luminaries as The Futureheads, The Zutons, The Magic Band, The Stands and The Coral, The Cubical returned home to Liverpool and were snapped up by pioneering indie label Dead Young Records, on the way being given seals of approval from Mojo magazine as one of the ‘Coolest Bands of the Year’ and The Guardian as ‘Band of the Day’. With their debut album ready to unleash on the unsuspecting public the future’s looking bright and we can’t wait to see what fate has in store for them next.

"Wilson makes Waits sound like Tiny Tim" - The Guardian (Band of the day).

"The rumble of Great White Lie is enough to make a listener fear divine retribution, hide the children and close the curtains." - Spin Magazine.

"Enough to raise the ghost of Willie Dixon, track down Captain Beefheart circa safe as milk and have a chat with the La's. And the singer's raspy vocal might just shatter your light bulbs." – MOJO Magazine.
