Waiting On The Outside

Waiting On The Outside is the ninth album by Hackney, East London-based ‘gypsy punk’ band Walking Wounded. Led by singer-songwriter Hugh Poulton and surviving in some shape or form for approximately thirty years, this is the first album by this world music collective to receive full distribution.

Their sound draws on influences from Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Americas. Never mind Gogol Bordello: Walking Wounded invented the gypsy-punk genre! Their last two albums have sold over 1,000 each via mailorder and gigs.

Mainman Hugh Poulton is a noted academic and human rights activist specialising in Balkan affairs. He has lived, travelled and studied widely among the Balkan peoples, and is the author of several highly regarded books. Walking Wounded are well-loved elder statesmen of the emerging Hackney music scene. Their song ‘Home Sweet Hackney’ is recognised as an unofficial ‘national anthem’ across London’s poorest borough.
