VARIOUS VERSUS + THE BASS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING
When it was suggested that part of the whipping-up of frenzy in advance of that album should include a CD of their series of breathtaking 7-inch singles stretching back to 2005’s ‘Hater’, the idea very quickly mutated – in characteristic VP style – into ‘Various Versus’ : a 14 track collection in which Various Production’s shapeshifting renovations of Ian Brown (‘Sister Rose’), Foals (‘Red Sox’), Virus Syndicate (‘Apollo’), Sugarbabes (‘Too Lost In You’), SIA (‘Where I Belong’), Emma Pollock (‘Limbs’), MIA (‘Bird Flu’) and Adele (’Chasing Pavements’) rub shoulders with bespoke refixes of their own tunes by a carefully assembled cabal of some of the freshest faces in electronic music, namely Zomby (Hyperdub), Rustie (Stuff), Milanese (Warp, Planet Mu), Zan Lyons (Moshi Moshi, Foundry), and Actress (Werk Discs).
‘The Bass Has Left The Building’ is the long-awaited sequel to Disrupt's debut album ‘Foundation Bit’, which appeared on the wonderful Werk Discs in 2007 and quickly became one of the classic works of modern bass culture. On this new epic voyage Disrupt pushes the genre boundaries of 8Bit-ChipHop, roots dub and old-school gaming soundtracks into one big swirling black hole of low end mayhem.
