Stones Throw Records label manager and resident funk archivist Egon produced the benchmark funk compilation The Funky 16 Corners in 2001. Rolling Stone raved "A victory for everyone trying to preserve America's precious funk resources" and consumers all over the world ensured that The Funky 16 Corners became one of the most successful funk compilations of all time.
In the intervening four years Egon has been responsible for the Stark Reality NOW anthology (5/5 Stars in Mojo Magazine) and The Third Unheard - Connecticut Hip Hop 1979-1983 (GQ Magazine's top compilation of 2004).
Through his imprint, Now-Again Records, founded in 2002, Egon released the South Dallas Pop Festival 1970 performance, the L.A. Carnival's Pose A Question collection and the Ebony Rhythm Band's Soul Heart Transplant: The LAMP Sessions. All meticulously assembled and thoroughly researched anthologies of lost Black American music.
Yet, to date, many of Now-Again's releases were released only on limited edition 7-inch and 12-inch vinyl. For the first time, Egon presents a collection of funk treasures culled from all of Now-Again's vinyl-only releases with Cold Heat Vol. 1. Expertly remastered, packaged with extensive liner notes, complete annotation, and a historical overview of each band and its recording trajectory, Cold Heat contains more photos and memorabilia in its 28-page booklet than even the most seasoned funk fiend would expect.
