Peace Burial At Sea are an art rock band from rural Northumberland and inner city Newcastle. Named after a painting by JM Turner, they are fierce and fragile, soul-sick but unrepentant.Their debut recording 'This is Such a Quiet Town' was a concept album of sorts, released in 2004 on Captains Of Industry. Over the course of ten songs it charted a psycho-geographical journey along the pulsing heartlines of the city - basking in the neon, being stalked by shadows, turning a collar to the chill.

The result is a raw portrait of modern England in all its faded horror. This is an England of Big Mac boxes and 'cancer-ridden lungs', of back street deviants and skies that crack and splinter. Perpetual witching hour. Dead pigeons. A strange tang in the air - metallic, like blood.
Reviewers picked up on the Ballardian/Burroughsian beauty in such self-disgust as much they did musical reference points such as Mogwai, Slint. Aphex Twin and Radiohead. If Stanley Kubrick were still with us we'd like to think he'd approve of the unique ambient electro / crushing hardcore hybrid played by these four Winston Smiths. The album and attendant live shows received positive reviews in publications such as Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Kerrang!, Plan B, DrownedinSound, Organ etc.
Last year saw Peace Burial At Sea tour the UK with fellow tipped sonic terrorists 65daysofstatic and also plays shows with a variety of bands including label mates Hell Is For Heroes, Aerogramme, Do Me Bad Things, Six By Seven, Future Ex Wife, and fellow up-and-coming Geordies such as Maximo Park and Kubichek! Many of the great new undergrounds acts of our time, basically.
