The authentic chemistry shared between Madlib and Dudley Perkins is on par with that of Madlib’s most celebrated collaborators – including J Dilla (Jaylib) and MF DOOM (Madvillain). Both ’Lib and Dudley hail from the Southern California city of Oxnard, where they first soaked in the plaintive harmonies and poignant phrasing of classic soul acts like Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions, and Gladys Night & The Pips.

Add a strong injection of George Clinton and you have the space cadet funk bomb “Funky Dudley.” Fans of current hip hop will be hard pressed to find a more infectious, nastier jam on the racks right now. The flip side’s “Testin’ Me” is an equally addictive, driving-piano plead to the man upstairs. Vocal and instrumentals of both tunes included.
