Idolum
‘Idolum’ is a latin word meaning both “ghost” and “idea”, and has been chosen as the title as it represents the massive but hidden presence of the records’ main concepts. Guest performers include the astonishing voice of Rose Kemp on ‘Ammonia’, and Lorenzer of Lento providing powerful six-string sonic waves on ‘Elephantom’, while Lorenzo Stecconi features as Soundlord for the whole album.
Ufomammut’s 2003 album ‘Snailking’ found the band recognized worldwide as creators of a unique brand of psychedelic sludge. With long songs, droning vocals and massive effects, Ufomammut took up a place in the extreme rock pantheon alongside Neurosis, combining their monumental riffing attitude with the psychedelia of the more visionary aspects of Pink Floyd. 2005’s ‘Lucifer Songs’ opened new and unexpected doors, the work of a mature and tight-knit band willing to experiment with its own DNA. The flaming spatial voyage which made ‘Snailking’ one of the records of the year for many specialist magazines and websites remained at their core, alongside new soundscapes made up of sinister atmospheres and gloomy vintage electronics. ‘Idolum’ is a new chapter in the sonic history of Ufomammut, presenting a natural and progressive evolution in the sound and structure of their songs : dark atmospheres, simple and monolithic song frameworks, and a new and different vision of heavyweight of psychedelic rock.
