The Social Club #8
Marking their recent addition to The Social Registry's roster, Olympia-via- Brooklyn's Growing present their first contribution to the label with this installment in our ongoing 7" series.
Consisting of members Joe Denardo and Kevin Doria, Growing's already legendary status among ambient and noise-rock circles has solidified their reputation. The two songs found on this 7" represent the best of the band, spotlighting their uncanny ability to extract alien and ethereal sounds from the traditional format of the electric guitar. Though the 7" consists of just two songs, and short ones by the band's standards, it truly illuminates the diverse spread of their ability and the sonic wellspring they draw from. Disconfirm is a heady and cerebral affair, a slow-churning exercise in repetition, floating awash in slowly building soundscapes. It's a rockist's response to minimal techno. Horizon Drift, however, is sparse and blip-heavy, punctured by artfully sonic jabs. Both songs presented here do the band's notoriously loud and transcendent live shows justice, and point to great things on the horizon with The Social Registry. growing have toured extensively in north america and europe with Thrones , Animal colective, Gang gang dance, Boris and Black Dice. 7" is ltd to 750 copies and has beautiful letter-pressed artwork.
