Little Stabs of Happiness
Back with their second album, these new recordings are the first since their critically acclaimed debut st cd released in 2000.
Written in a rat-infested basement on nyc's lower east side in the weeks directly after 9/11, the Vanity Set recorded Little Stabs of Happiness in the summer of 2002. Setting a blend of low art, high sass and raw bluster. No other band leaps from the sublime to depraved, filth to elegance, camp to heartfelt urgency like these black-fisted post-romanticists. Sclavunos is the exquisitely tailored, six-foot-seven, howling/crooning front man with a vocal style somewhere between adam west, jarvis cocker and kermit. Renowned for their wickedly exuberant live performances, the Vanity Set sally forth with psycho-billy guitar, creepy keys, raucous tuba, mellifluous theremin, and boasts the finest rhythm section in all five boroughs of NYC.
