Blood On My Hands [ Ricardo Villalobos Apocalypso Now Mix ]

Ricardo Villalobos is a name that needs little introduction. With release upon release of innovative, eclectic, and experimental beats and legendary performances in the world's foremost clubs, he is a truly seminal figure in the electronic music world. Shackleton meanwhile has spent the last couple of years carving out his own brand of unpredictability. His sound defies easy categorisation, with intricate, snaking percussion, hypnotic melodies, seriously deep bass lines and dubwise sensibilities. This release is a genuine thrill for all those who are interested in the unconventional.

'Blood On My Hands' was originally released on Skull Disco in May 2006 and was adopted by many forward thinking DJs from diverse realms of the beats spectrum, including Villalobos, Rob Da Bank, and much of the developing dubstep fraternity. With its melancholic melody, profound bassline and mournful lyric, 'Blood On My Hands' seemed to point towards a merging of musical genres that exist between the dubwise and the minimal.

This version finds Ricardo Villalobos completely dismantling the original, reducing and tuning-out the conga-driven rhythm and delayed stabs to replace them with an epic 18 minutes of metronomic minimalism, in which the pulsating beats fold in on themselves in shifting sine-waves and the dread vocal takes centre-stage, endlessly repeating its doomed vision of falling towers and weak flesh. Don't call it dubstep - this is Skull Disco.
