The If If
The album is the follow-up to "Sleeper" which placed Lars and Alex at the forefront of Australian electropop, with the band much in demand as club djs, sound installation artists (they made the Official soundtrack for the SBS TV's 2006 Inside Film Awards) and with their own radio show on Sydney's 2serFM. Now "The If If" gets a UK/Europe release, following the band's Number 8 spot on Radio 1's Festive 50 with their effortlessly groovy cover of "Lord Lucan Is Missing" (by John Peel punk faves The Dodgems). The album was preceded by the single "Campaign For Real Bread" which London's Rough Trade shop called "a stunning anthemic workout combining the ambient sensibilities of Matthew Herbert and the lyrical reach of The Triffids". This brilliantly ironic track showcases the duo's mastery of dreamy, dubby production, infectious pop, and a sly line in lyrical mischief - delivered in Alex's close-up, almost conversational vocal style.
Such are Ollo's gifts for political persuasion that many eager supporters have joined the 'campaign' - check progress on www.myspace.com/realbread. The album features another unexpected cover version, "The Lunatics [Have Taken Over The Asylum]" which gives another clue to Ollo's musical palette.
