Round and Round
Bethnal Green's quiet, community garden is a haven for Simon Lord. Once the frontman of twisted pop quartet Simian, he's now the creative force behind a new psychedelic folk project: Garden.
Garden make what could loosely be described as modern folk music. Simon's ear for a good tune that served him so well during the Simian years is still in bountiful supply, as are his distinct vocals. But so too is the lateral approach to production that made Simian far more interesting than just another experimental pop act. This, in part, comes courtesy of fellow Simian conspirator, drummer and producer James Ford (lately of Mystery jets and Test Icicles fame). Garden released an ep last year on Trial and Error recordings (the label set up by Simian and friends) to much critical acclaim; "each Garden song is full of brightly-lit-sunshine morning wonders as Lord demonstrates that he has an innate sense of baroque beauty" Flux magazine"exemplary four track ep of exquisite modern folk. Never lapsing into the genre's usual formulae, Garden instead leans towards the future" Music week Now Garden have found a home on Static Caravan (also home to kindred spirits Tunng) and are ready to unleash their technicolour debut album "Round and Round". For fans of Tunng; King Creosote, Adem; Pentangle; Forest and in fact all things Fence.
