The Bongolian

Introducing The Bongolian - a solo project from Nasser Bouzida, the main man from Blow Up Records' Big Boss Man.

This is Nasser in his element, taking us on a musical journey of dirty bongo driven Funk and spaced-out Latin Soul - all 100% Heavy Bongo Vibes! Since it's release tracks have appeared on several European compilations, and soundbeds including Radio 1. Written, arranged, performed and produced by Nasser at his home studio over the last year and recorded on analogue 8 track. Mixed by Nasser and Nick Terry (Ian Brown, Libertines, McAlmont & Butler). Please note, this album contains NO SAMPLES, the groove just sounds that good! Having played all the instruments for the studio recording himself, The Bongolian now had to assemble a band in order to take the new Bongo Funk sound on the road. The Bongolian's debut gig was a headline slot at the prestigious Rennes Jazz festival in France. This has been followed by more gigs in Europe and a series of UK gigs including a sell out hometown show at London's Metro Club. Last year, The Bongolian toured with Holly Golightly (as support and also playing in her band) in the UK, the USA and Germany, as well as recording with her on her forthcoming new album. "One of the best British funk releases in years. Pay attention, Jay Kay" Loaded. "Totally mind-blowing." What's On. "He takes us on a journey of dirty bongo driven funk and spaced out Latin soul. Please note, this album contains no samples, the groove just sounds that good! ." Mojo. "Don't waste time reading the track-listing, this album was made for dancing to - 4/5" OK! "We know just what you're thinking - Exactly what, NME, can you do with a mere bongo? Well listen and learn." NME. Reference Points: Since it's release The Bongolian has found a wide appeal from dance and Hip-Hop to rare grooves and funky 45s fans. Think Money Mark meets Mongo Santamaria.70s heavy percussive Funk, Incredible Bongo Band, James Brown, Tito Punte, Ray Barretto, Jack McDuff.
