Night Fold Around Me
ROC return with their third album, a long-overdue follow-up to widely-acclaimed albums on Setanta and Virgin, which gained them fans in Radiohead, Orbital and Chemical Brothers.
Generally perceived as perverse and uncategorisable, ROC are an unusual mix - a close descendant of Bram Stoker, an American yachtswoman and the grandson of Daphne Du Maurier. ROC draw on everything pure noise to pure pop as backdrop to Fred and Karen's raging and poignant sentiments. Comparisons have been made with Goldfrapp, Spiritualized, Eels and Blue Nile among many others. The new album was recorded in the former On-U Sound studios with several tracks mixed by Coldplay producer Danton Supple. Two taster singles have been well-received: "Princess" was 6music Evening SOTW, while "Journey to the Centre of Brixton" had plays on Radio 1 (Steve Lamacq), 6music (Marc Riley), and made playlouder.com's Readers Poll 2005 Top 50. ROC appeared briefly in a Steve Lamacq documentary on Radio 1 in April. A new single "Sink A Bite Into Life" goes to radio to coincide with the album, complete with a stunning 12" remix by Aussie electrobrat Dsico (whose "Smells Like Electro" was licenced to Tom Middleton's Universal compilation "Cosmosonica"), and a beautiful video by Cal-TV (their promo of Wax Audio's "Imagine This" coming to a festival near you).
