Silent Light

Working occasionally with space rock and electronica unit Third Eye Foundation, the album consists of dark drum'n'bass rhythm sketches; distant, droning electronics; and guitar wash in the vein of My Bloody Valentine.

Silent Light is a beautiful display of how to best fuse cracked electronica and breakbeat with lush, droning psychedelia of the kind that Crescent, Flying Saucer Attack, and Main mastered in the mid-'90s. The 21 pieces are short, scattered fragments that add up to little in the album coherency department. The overall picture is a dark, dreamy atmosphere that makes for perfect accompaniment to a sleepless, rainy night. Andrea Parker's moody breakbeat or the film noir imaginary soundtracks of Barry Adamson are good points of reference for this album. Later albums on the Fat Cat label saw the project develop this approach ten-fold, yet this album has its share of blissful moments, even if at times it comes off a little sketchy and lo-fi. AMG
