Bravery, Repetition & Noise
Bravery Repetition and Noise, like so much of the BJM catalog, evokes a 1960s lysergic la-la land. The strummy lullabye "Stolen" features whimsical Syd Barrett verse: "I met her in the park, dancing naked after dark / I got dressed because it started to rain, somehow I know I'd never see her again." AP
The angelic but detached vocals and Eastern ambience of "Just For Today" imbue the track with an eerie, icy hippie beauty. And the disc's fuzzy production has that vintage echo, the sound of a band performing live in an old water heater. This record's more about mood than it is about rocking, but the sapphire melodies, aching drones, nuanced instrumentation and solid songcraft make it more than paisley wallpaper music. AP
