I didnt get where I am today
Lost in a sea of releases on Wiiija in 1997, this LP marks the pinnacle of the Scapegoats as a four-piece band and is clearly the blueprint for the likes of Acoustic Ladyland. Includes three covers: The King of the Cheap Thing by Bedders (ex-Madness), Dog Food by Iggy Pop, featuring James Johnston (Gallon Drunk & Bad Seeds) on harmonica and, lastly, Tallis's Canon arranged for four trumpets. But it's the originals which take centre stage - Boots Off!! and Asthma being perennial live faves.
"I didn't get where I am today is 45 minutes of brass-laden, slinky rock'n'roll grooves"
JP vigilante.co.uk
"A great big vat of bubbling, cross-pollinating musical styles"
Q ***
"A deceptively jokey record with a dark and even moving subtext..."
Melody Maker
