Feel The Heat EP
Brussels label Stainage made their debut late last year with a breathtaking split EP from Grimelock and Saviour (“one of the heaviest plates of old style sublow and dubstep consolidations that we've heard in ages” – Boomkat), and now return with this new vinyl outing boasting a trio of tunes united by their anthemic proportions, bringing three different flavours and moods to the room from label-founders Grimelock, Alchemyst, and the vocal talents of Maëlan.
From steamy reggae vibes to grimey low-end to cinematic sub-bass pressure, the ‘Feel The Heat’ EP delivers on all fronts. Maëlan's title-track cut (produced by Alchemyst) drops a tight fusion of smoked dancehall and uplifting mid range basslines that roll along effortlessly with Maëlan's vocals to bring a positive vibe that guarantees instant rewind and dancefloor madness. Big niceness assured on this one for all fans of Mungo’s Hi-Fi’s harder output on Scrub A Dub or the Police In Helicopter massive. Grimelock have been steadily building a name for themselves as Belgium’s finest bass music export. Rooted in the early Belgian jungle scene, the duo bring a unique, explosive and high-speed combination of dubstep, garage, electro and hip hop. As well as starting the Stainage label, they are also responsible for the infamous Stainage parties that brought many of the biggest dubstep and bass selectors to Brussels long before the scene became well known.
Their ‘Total Recall’ is an introspective journey through a tense cinematic soundscape that builds toward a shattering blast of sonic artillery. Also starting out as a drum & bass DJ, Alchemyst has been producing for nearly a decade, searching out different approaches to make music that appeals the ear while at the same time disturbing and arousing emotions. His style sits somewhere between grime, dubstep, and experimental electronica, with industrial atmospheres shaken up by dis-organized rhythms.
On ‘Bitch Smackin Killa’, Alchemyst reaches for his darkside and delivers a badman grimey-crunky riddim where the bass riff is the perfect hook and the hammer style drums create devastation in the dance. This one is a pure energy blow.
