You Are Being Lied To

After five years setting musical fires across the suburbs of Briatin (and breyond), Kinesis are calling it a day - but not before they release this swansong album, an album that deftly seals their legacy at the mere age of 21. already praised by NME, Kerrang!, Rock Sound, The Fly etc 'You Are Being Lied To' mixes the guitar histionics of Muse with the same book-ish counter cultural intellect and machine gun lyrics and last seen with the Manic Street Preachers and Rage Against The Machine. Elsewhere their are poignant moments of downbeat beauty akin to Bowie and Suede. Always intent on goping against the grain of the 'all surface / no substance' trends of rock music, Kinesis have done the unthinkable and split on a high

Kinesis formed in September of 2000 and recorded their first demo - 'The Flowers Are Dead EP' - in October. The positive response to this recording prompted the band to return to the studio in February 2001 with Pete Troughton (Elbow, I Am Kloot) to record 5 tracks which would eventually form the bulk of the Worship Yourself Minialbum. This initial recording secured a distribution deal with Cargo Records, which led to the recording of an additional 3 tracks (2 of which were taken from 'The Flowers Are Dead') in March.
The final product of all of this was the Worship Yourself minialbum, which is currently limited to 1000 copies, many of which were sold thanks to early support from the likes of Steve Lamacq and Kerrang!,

In the summer of 2001, Kinesis set out on a string of live dates around the country, playing London or Cardiff one week to Manchester or Glasgow the next, improving and refining their live sound. By December their restless schedule had generated enough interest to land them in Maida Vale studios, to record a live Evening Session for Steve Lamacq. The following week they were back in a London studio recording with Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, My Vitriol), followed by even more live dates.

2002-2003 saw the band sign to Independiente and tour the UK Europe and Japan with some of the biggest bands in the world - Muse, Manic Street Preachers, Linkin Park, Biffy clyro, Hell Is For Heroes - and release the critically acclaimed album 'Handshakes For Bullet's and clutch of singles that bothered the charts. Alas, life on a major label as not to be. When funds were withdrawn during the recording of 'You Are Being Lied To', Kinesis decided to call it a day and release the album through politically-active independent label, who had forged links with the band since their inception, Kinesis announcing their split on the day of the album's release.

This then, is their epitaph.

Kinesis RIP 2000 - 20005
