Stigmata

Martin Rev, the avant keyboard half of punk pioneers Suicide is set to release a new solo album on the blastfirstpetite label on the 30th of November 2009. ‘Stigmata’ was recorded at the end of last year in his hometown of New York City, and features fourteen new tracks which are available on CD and download. ‘Stigmata’ heaves with glitched out digital distorted synthetic orchestral sounds and is quite unlike anything he has released before.

A timely “FLASH FORWARD” of an album, it already been described as “genius” by Spiritualized main man, Jason Pierce, and continues Rev’s now four decades of eclectic electronic musicianship. ( Suicide’s performance at September’s ATP NY saw The New York Times describe then as “ The oldest group of the list of 39, but quite probably the most extreme” Martin Rev will play a handful of European solo live dates in November, the UK highlight being a show at the Corsica Studios in London on the 25th of November with young labelmates HTRK and Factory Floor.

Live Dates:
Nov 25th Corsica Studios, London (W/ Htrk & Factory Floor)
Nov 26th Extra Club. Recanati , Italy (W/ Lydia Lunch)
Nov 28th Locomotiv, Bologna, Italy
Dec 1st Grage, Oslo, Norway\Dec 3rd Cologne, Germany
Dec 4th Berlin, Germany
Dec 5th Exit, Zurich, Switzerland

And to further celebrate the album’s release, Neu Galleries (London) will be showing a series of Rev’s “abstract instinctive scores” throughout November. Shown once in New York in the late 70’s these ink on music manuscript paper artworks date from 1975 to the present day. . “They are to me, as much the traditional form of compositional reference, as they can be looked upon by others as abstract art…..they serve both purposes…..they document compositions from throughout my career, I’ve always done them”.

Blastfirstpetite also continue to celebrate Martin Rev’s partner, Alan Vega’s 70th Birthday with the release of their Suicide covers series Over the last twelve months the likes of Bruce Springsteen, The Horrors, Primal Scream, Peaches, Sunn 0)) + Pansonic and Lydia Lunch have all contributed to the series and the coming months will see releases from Klaxons, Peaches, Grinderman , Mogwai, Iggy Pop, Spiritualised, Julian Cope, Vincent Gallo and LIARS.

Suicide open for Iggy & The Stooges at the 5th Anniversary of ATP’s “Don’t Look Back” series at Hammersmith Apollo, London on 2nd & 3rd May 2010.
