Rubric

Seeking it's artists both locally (New York City), nationally and internationally, Rubric has put together a formidable roster. Rubric is a 2-man company run by both President Kenny Sehgal and Operations Manager David Gwiazdowski. Kenny leads the Rubric "house" band Aytobach Kreisor; Dave has a long history of underground radio. Together they've called the shots for Rubric since its 1999 inception. Recently, they have moved into the KnitMedia offices, where they have recently made a deal for housing, manufacturing and distribution both through it's new in-house company Knitche Distribution and via DNA/Emerge.

Rubric has a varied and exceptional roster. Mary Lou Lord (folk) the Heroine Sheiks (punk) and Cave Catt Sammy (rockabilly) are all recent signings that have toured on a national level. Rubric continues to maintain it's licensing relationship with the Bevis Frond in the US and Canada-we've not only put out the Frond's latest releases and side projects, but have embarked on an ambitious reissue campaign of the Frond back catalogue. Also licensed for the US & Canada are titles issued on the Frond's Woronzow label-titles by Tom Rapp, Green Pajamas and a handful of others.

Rubric supports its favorites of the local scene. The Barnyard Playboys, The Jimmy Nations Combo and King County Queens are all quality New York City acts. We even break the mold of strictly making records by doing a DVD with controversial filmmaker Nick Zedd. The Raging Teens from Boston have also fared well for our label.
Rubric is primarily a rock label. We tend to release records we like, by artists we like. As the label grows, our focus turns to artists who are capable of touring nationally and internationally.
