DISTRIBUTION

Label Enquiries

Cargo Records UK are one of the UK's leading independent distributors of records and CDs to the UK's retail, wholesale and domestic export market. If you are a label looking for a distribution deal with Cargo you may wish to consider the following points before approaching us.

What We Do

Our business is to supply a label's releases into retail outlets across the UK. Labels manage their own recording, manufacturing and marketing. They are also expected to organise their own promotional activity, advertising and radio/TV plugging. Our involvement with marketing is associated with retail marketing - working with retailers to assist in the stocking and sell-through of your releases. If you are a producer, musician or band looking for a deal you should approach a publisher or a record label direct.

Label Management

Each label is assigned a Label Manager whose responsibility is to maintain day to day contact and provide any guidance and advice that might be required. Each Label Manager specialises in particular genres of music to provide specific marketing insight and each will understand what is required to achieve the strategic aims of a label, within the realistic limitations of a constantly shifting market. The Label Manager oversees scheduling, release and stock levels, as well as the performance of the label in general, working closely with the sales team to maximise the sales potential of each release on an on-going basis./p>

What We Are For

As you can imagine we receive many enquiries about distribution. We provide a service which gives labels access to a crowded and rapidly changing retail sector, and the success of this service and Cargo as a business is entirely governed by results, so the criteria under which we select labels for distribution is based on factors that, in our judgement, will make a label attractive to the buying public. Inevitably, the market changes over time, and so our criteria will change with it

If you think you fit the bill and that your label will be in good hands at Cargo, send a brief email covering these points in relation to your plans. You should include a succinct overview of your label, artist roster, and how you plan to promote your releases.

Obviously we’ll need to hear your music too! Send finished samples (no demos please) to the relevant Label Manager, either by post or email, details below.

When sending files via email, please keep in mind that high volume or multiple attachments could be blocked by our server. If you have a lot of material you want us to hear or view, a link to a specific streaming or download site is preferable... but help us save time by sending us straight to the music. Further searching of an external website is time-consuming, and often frustrating, so we probably won’t bother looking.

If however you feel you may need to do a little more groundwork first we recommend you obtain a copy of the the Music Week Directory mwdirectory@cmpinformation.com) which is an invaluable source of contacts covering everything from press & promotions companies to manufacturers, distributors and other services.

Good Luck With Your Endeavours

***Please note that due to the number of packages received, we are unable to confirm receipt of your material nor can material be returned. It is therefore suggested that no original materials (audio/video tapes, photos, articles, etc.) be sent. If there is interest in the submission, we will contact you. Due to the man hours involved, we cannot respond to every submission, and will not contact anyone whose material is declined. If you want to check on the safe arrival and progress of your submission, please don’t phone, but feel free to send a follow-up email to the Label Manager in question
