In Dead Meadows universe, the wah-wah pedal is just as important as the guitar itself - AMG
Encompass everything from ambient guitar drones to surging psych-funk sludge, blues-folk tunes to barbiturate space-rock, and some southern slow boogie thrown in for good measure.
From inception the three members, guitar-vocalist Jason Simon, bassist Steve Kille, and drummer Mark Laughlin set out to fuse their love of 70s hard rock ala Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Hawkwind and Black Sabbath with their own fantasy visions of strange lands as well as a good dose of punk energy and more recent influences such as Spiritualized, Janes Addiction, and Bardo Pond. What they actually created is something even more esoteric than mere comparisons can conjure. Thus far theyve released two widely-respected albuums on Tolotta Records. Theyve done a Peel Session for the BBC and been invited to tour Europe in the near future. Earlier this year, they opened for The Brian Jonestown Massacre on the latest national tour, one result of which was the live recording which will be the first in the "Got Live If You Want It!" series from The Committee to Keep Music Evil. They will also be playing with the Massacre on their September 2002 tour, as well as some dates with Super Furry Animals. The album is being released in both vinyl and CD formats. The band has just inked with Matador Records, with whom The Committee will be cooperating in the promotion of this fantastic band. - The Committee to Keep Music Evil
