Politics, sex and culture wrapped up in barbed wire riffs, from young livewire Brit favourites
For five years, Kinesis wrestled with the music industry. An industry that eats it's young before moving onto its next victim. From their first self-released mini-album, 'Worship Yourself' (2001), recorded post-GCSE exams, to signing to Independiente, releasing album 'Handshakes For Bullets' (2003) and supporting Manic Street Preachers, Linkin Park and Muse. Not to mention the dozens of smashed guitars, a clutch of sold-out singles, festivals appearances and obligatory mad scenes in Japan. It's been a journey of high and lows for this tight-knit band of friends from Bolton. Much has been learnt.
Kinesis have always been anti-image, anti-media-led falsehood, so it seems fitting that there is now only the music to go. Listen to title track 'You Are Being Lied To' with it's prophetic, "This is the sound of a cultural being drowned" hook for the sound of social asphyxiation, or its chorus of "You are being lied to by those who should protect you" , which adroitly sums up the current state of the world.
Like a sonic stew of Muse, The Pixies and Rage Against The Machine, 'You Are Being Lied To' bubbles with anger and invective. Any bitterness on Kinesis parting album You Are Being Lied To is with the world rather than the music industry - the same acrid taste in the mouths of right-minded, well-read men and women the world over. There are even traces of Bowie, Suede and Queen in songs such as the breathtaking 'The Question Has Changed' ("None of this will matter in a thousand years...") - just imagine what the third album would have sounded like!
