Lucky Luke are a well kept secret from Glasgows west end.
They were formed 8 years ago by Simon Shaw and Morag Wilson, Simon having served apprenticeship in rockers V-Twin while Morag paid her dues as one part of the most fearsome duo in town, 'Leather Mole'.
Since then theyve kept mostly to the shadows, picking up stray band members and antiquated instruments along the way, and cultivating their own style of folk-influenced music that blends the dark balladry of Fairport Convention with the ingenious arrangements of the Incredible String Band.
The first official Lucky Luke release was a delicate cover version of the The West Coast Pop Art Experiment Bands, "Will You Walk With Me In The Morning", that appeared on an Earworm compilation 10" in late 2002. Almost a year later, Wee Black Skelf released their debut single, "Simon of the Desert", in a limited edition run of five hundred 7"s. See the records and mail-order pages for more details.
In 2003, with their songs gaining potency from an expanded 8-piece line up, they checked into the Diving Bell studio to record 9 songs for their debut album 'Patrick The Survivor' which was released through Invada and Wee Black Skelf.'
'Since then Lucky Luke have appeared on the Whisper EP (a compilation 7" also featuring King Creosote, Immigrant and South Downs) released on Chaffinch Records. And last year Wee Black Skelf released Lucky Luke's interpretations of the traditional songs "Reynardine" and "Hori Horo" on 7" vinyl.
