The Nitwood collective create improvised music using mixed media incorporating elements of random chance and experiment.
A flexible line-up of brass players, guitarists, percussionists and vocalists extemporise over a pulsating solid nucleus propelled by driving drums, electronic keyboards and twin bass guitars. Some pieces are performed impromptu, others have pre-designed but ever-shifting rhythmic foundations underpinning the spontaneous inventiveness of the performer with the featured lead instrument, voice, found sound, found object or studio dustbin. Nitwoods album Nitwood is to be released in July on the Sartorial label, featuring 12 tracks, six raw and six cooked by Funkhead.
